Gaming Isn't Expensive

If you are a college or university student in the U.S. or Canada with an interest in online gaming, your future looks bright: HEAT.NET, the free online multiplayer game service with the largest selection of games, is headed your way this fall. SegaSoft Networks, Inc. recently announced the HEAT Collegiate Internet Gaming League (HEATCIGL), the largest, free online multiplayer gaming league designed specifically for college and university students. Open to all college and university students in the U.S. and Canada, HEATCIGL offers competition in the best multiplayer games with tournaments, prizes, community and more. And it's priced to meet the budget of the most cash-strapped students on any campus: Free, zip, zero, nada, notink!

The fun begins in October, when students from all over North America will compete in HEATCIGL tournaments for prizes and school pride. Since membership is free all that is required is the ability and desire to play favorite multiplayer PC games such as Quake 2 against players from any school, including their own. Members will be able to participate in both official and intramural competitions. Students interested in organizing and competing in their own intramural tournaments, can do so using an easy-to-use and cheap gaming PC software tool from HEAT.NET. In a HEATCIGL exclusive, Sega Soft will make free tournament-staging software available to groups and individuals.

“Internet gaming is all about building community and competition and what better place to celebrate it than at the collegiate level,” said SegaSoft vice president and general manager of HEAT.NET. “Rivalries between colleges and students are a natural part of campus life. Combining this innate competition with free multiplayer games will bode well for the success of HEATCIGL. The HEAT Collegiate Internet Gaming League is giving college gamers exactly what they want -- the chance to compete against their peers and defend the honor of their school. “

As a founding sponsor of the HEATCIGL program, Creative Labs will provide SegaSoft with giveaways and marketing support for collegiate competitions and other HEATCIGL events. In addition, Creative Labs will offer its existing base of collegiate gamers the opportunity to sign-up for HEATCIGL. “HEATCIGL gives us another opportunity to interact with collegiate gamers -- a group that Creative has already focused on reaching,” said Internet marketing manager for Creative Labs. “We're excited about giving our users access to HEATCIGL's online games and look forward to watching some awesome competition between the participating colleges and universities.”

SegaSoft will kick off the launch of HEATCIGL by marketing the new on-line games league to 415 universities and colleges with a campaign that will include the distribution of 400,000 free sign-up disks at college bookstores, and other locations on and off campus. Along with free instant access to HEATCIGL, the disks will feature demonstrations of such hot new titles as SegaSoft's Plane Crazy and Net Fighter. Look for upcoming announcements with additional HEATCIGL partners prior to the launch of competitive play.

According to a survey by Student Monitor, surfing the net replaced beer drinking this year as the number one leisure activity of college students, ending a ten year beer run. Sounds like it's time to stop wasting those hours surfing and get down to some serious game competition.
